A three time Rutgers alum, Dr. Cooke is the Augusta Baker Endowed Chair and an Associate Professor of the School of Information Science in the University of South Carolina’s College of Information and Communication. She has experience in public, medical, and academic libraries, and her research and teaching interests include critical cultural information studies, fake news/misinformation/disinformation, and diversity and social justice in librarianship, focusing on how to integrate them into LIS education and pedagogy.

The event features a panel of almost MI graduates with diverse professional and educational backgrounds. Presented by: SCARLA (The Student College, Academic, and Research Libraries Association), Rutgers–New Brunswick Libraries, LISSA (Library and Information Science Student Association), and the SC&I Alumni Association
As part of Banned Book Week, you are invited to BANNED: A Virtual Banned Books Read-Out & Discussions on the Freedom to Read on October 1 at 4:30pm EST. In addition to a zine workshop and “flash-talks” from faculty at Rutgers-NB libraries and SC&I on censorship and free speech, this virtual open mic-night will also give participants the opportunity to read from, listen to, and celebrate their favorite banned/challenged books. All kinds of texts are welcome, as are all languages!
